How to improvise with minimal techniques

Yves Senden |Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, Belgium (AP Hogeschool)

Step 1: structure - based on G F: pulse plus silence

Step 2: within this structure - freedom by giving the possibility to fill silences with any sound

Step 3: similar to step 2 but the silences are filled with a given set of tones (G, B flat, C D, F)

Step 4: structure - motive grows from 2 to 8 notes (g, f, b flat, c, d, c, f, d)

Step 5: structure - motive shrinks from 8 to 2 notes

Step 6: structure - counterpoint by means of canon between two groups

Step 7: structure - shift to another tonal center, A - G (canon stops)

Step 8: structure - 4 voice canon G - F (from 2 to 8)
