Modernizing European Higher Music Education Through Improvisation

Institutions: AEC

AEC:

Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen

AEC is a European cultural and educational network that represents institutions concerned with high-level training for the music profession.  AEC was founded in 1953 and has nearly 300 member institutions in 57 countries. Since January 2013, AEC is recognised as an International Non-profit Association under Belgian law and operates out of offices in Brussels.

AEC is the leading voice for Higher Music Education in Europe, a powerful advocate for its member institutions.

AEC seeks to foster artistic practice, learning and teaching, and research and innovation and to encourage the diversity and dynamism with which they are pursued in different institutions, countries and regions. It addresses all three areas by providing support, information and expert advice to its members (mainly through projects, communication and events organization); by engaging in advocacy and partnership-building at European and international levels; and by implementing measures to raise understanding and enhance standards of HME across the EHEA and beyond.

AEC’s role in METRIC is as follows:

  • Coordinating the Network activities by organising meetings, assisting with the preparation of the IPs, updating the METRIC website;
  • Promoting the Network during dedicated sessions of the AEC events organised regularly;
  • Disseminating to external targets the project activities and outcomes of the Network.
