Feeling at home within a structure

Exercise 1

Performance of Beethoven’s string quartet op. 18 No. 6 (1st mov., exposition) is followed by performing its structural/harmonic reduction.

Exercise 2

Searching for motivic dialogues within the structure/harmonic reduction, followed by 1at violinist performing the full text while the rest of the quartet performs the reduction. Note that the 1st violinist leans on the reduction for long-term phrasing.

Exercise 3

Searching for motivic dialogues within the structure/harmonic reduction, followed by 1at violinist performing the full text while the rest of the quartet performs the reduction. Note that the 1st violinist leans on the reduction for long-term phrasing.

Exercise 4

The quartet is asked to hear the structural reduction internally while performing the full-text externally, far away from one another. Partners “see” - and feel each other solely through listening.
